Art Explorer # 1: My Creative Inspiration

Creativity !! What does it mean to me...

Without a doubt the term “CREATIVITY” embodies, and can evoke an assortment of meanings as it is viewed through the lens of a person’s individualistic perspective. In addition, I also believe the term “creativity” is so abstract that it is virtually impossible for one to capture a true, exact definition of the word. Personally, when I think of creativity I automatically link it with a sense of SELF-EXPRESSION! Creativity can be seen through the way a person presents themselves, i.e. how an individual dresses; how they formulate and put together articles of clothing, their make-up, or even their hair-do. Other aspects that come to mind when I think of creativity is...

  • something UNIQUE and DIFFERENT
  • something NEW and INNOVATIVE
  • being able to IMAGINE and think OUTSIDE the BOX
  • being RESOURCEFUL and ORIGINAL
  • breaking societal NORMS

According to Schirrmacher & Fox (2009) creativity is stated as "the ability to see things in new ways; boundary breaking and going beyond the information given; thinking unconventionally...[and] combining unrelated things into something new" (pg.6). The word that once again stands out for me is NEW! Furthermore, I believe creativity is correlated with PERSPECTIVE, and being able to illustrate and express various viewpoints in unique ways.

So now that I have personally defined creativity...the next question to conquer is the many ways in which I believe myself to be creative. For one, I begin to reminisce on the strong passion I have for art and abstract painting. As a child I would spend hours upon hours, sitting in front on this huge canvas, painting strokes as inspiration was imparted. This passion lives through me today, as I navigate to painting as a means of artistic expression, and creative release. My love for interior design can also be viewed a form of creativity. Growing up, my friends and family would constantly tease and nag me about my unprecedented need to transform my room every month or so. The truth is... I simply can't help it! Now tell me, how can a person wake up to the same ol' boring setting and arrangement every day? I'm sorry.. not me! I love designing rooms, and making them neat and organized is my passion. I find enjoyment in choosing paint colours...combining patterns and putting together items that highlight unique qualities and characteristics. I also LOVE doodling! Sounds strange but if you ever have a chance to view my class notes, you'll soon realize this is no fairytale! Once again, I view this as a form of creative expression. Moreover, I enjoy braiding hair... especially my poor niece, who is subject to sit while it creatively design a hairstyle. Creativity is often expressed through this avenue, as no two hairstyles are ever identical, each possessing a unique creation. Lastly, I believe I express creativity through my passion for planning unique parties. Personally, I hate attending drag parties... where there is no entertainment, people lounging around with blank looks on their faces... HATE IT! My friends call me psycho, but I love planning, creating, and hosting parties. I embrace the challenge of finding creative games, and entertaining activities of which many will remember, and cherish forever!

... First Official Post !!

www.punchstock.com

Hello is in order... to you, my valued reader ! Welcome to my blog ! It is through this avenue of communication, that I will be dicussing various aspects surrounding the term CREATIVITY. Sounds boring ? Doesn't have to be ;) plus i'll try my best to make this as... (what's the word?) interesting ! YES,  interesting to read as possible !

www.bigstock.com

Start off by personally defining the word CREATIVITY. What does it mean to you ? In which ways are YOU creative ? Stumped .. ? Trust me your not alone. When I was asked these same questions, it was like the canvas of brain went BLANK I suddenly began starring at the ceiling, fidgeting with my pencil, tapping my nails, and checking to see if I magically recieved some text message... of  course this only detoured me momentarily as a few seconds later I began pondering, trying to conjure up some kind of reasonable answer. Then it came to me... !! The truth is, EVERY person possess a sense of creativity... instead of limiting creativeness to what is more than often associated with arts & crafts, begin to view creativity on a broader spectrum ! Break down the societal notions concerning CREATIVITY, and make it PERSONAL. So ask yourself these questions again. Remember, the BIG question is not asking "am i creative?" but asking, "how am i creative?" I hope my posts shed insight, and spread a sense of enjoyment as I research and "dive" into the world of CREATIVITY
